The only man who is really free is the one who can turn down an invitation to dinner without giving an excuse. Jules Renard (1864 – 1910)

Recently while traveling in the Tallahassee area my GPS decided that the quickest route to get from point A (where I was) to point B (where I wanted to be) was to run my butt down some back road north of town. This road was barely two lanes wide skirting some huge lake that looked more like a swamp than a body of water. As I rounded a turn and crested a small hill I was startled to see a buzzard standing in the opposing lane. I was fairly close to him when I topped the rise and I expected him to fly but instead he stood there and extended his wings out full spread facing me. I missed him by probably 10 feet but I couldn’t take my eyes off him. As I passed I saw three more buzzards standing behind him in a group of trees watching. I looked forward again and saw that I was headed right off the road. It was all I could do to keep from driving straight into a ditch. I barely recovered and drove on but about a mile down the road I figured out what I had just witnessed. This group of buzzards had gotten together and had one buzzard do his bird level best to distract a driver into a wreck and then they would have lunch. Surely this couldn’t be true but what else could it have been. Driver comes over hill, buzzard spreads wings while standing in the road, causing driver to lose focus, driver loses control of car, car wrecks injuring driver, and their food search becomes easy and it almost worked and I was that possible food source. This group of buzzards had decided to quit waiting for something to die and take matters into their own hands (or claws). It is an evolutionary advancement and I was there to actually witness it (if not almost participate). I would write a thesis on it and make millions but I don’t know how so I’ll just share it here.

I do have to wonder how they planned on getting the car door open …
